How to Install Android AOSP ROM 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in Captivate i897

What makes each Android User so excited nowadays is the released of the Ice Cream Sandwich that made the Android community to be very busy in working the porting of this ICS 4.0 into the Android devices which also includes the older devices too. You will be amazed at the outcome of them being irresistible as they come if you keep track of the most current 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich ports for some of the Android devices. Some manufacturers have managed already to release the Alpha as well as the beta versions of the ASOP ICS 4 ports of most of the Android devices.

Users really love the ICS app on their Galaxy S i9000 and even its cousin the Vibrant Captivate and others are left behind in their race to the Rom port 4.0Android, but these devices are catching up slowly now too. With the use of its Galaxy S port, the AOSP 4.0 Android Rom is available now on the Captivate also, while one also works for the Vibrant.  But sadly, there is no progress for the Epic 4G and Fascinate devices.

However in order to install the ICS in the Captivate  you must update your device in to the Android 2.3 (when you have not yet) then have the Recovery ClockWorkMod installed also- it is a requirement. You must use Google in case you need help regarding this.

Please be warned: That the procedures and methods discussed here are too risky and you need not attempt to do anything when you do not completely know what this is. When any damage occurs to you and your device, we will not be held responsible.

This guide is only applicable for the Samsung Captivate i897 in AT &T. Check out your device version in the Settings-About the Phone. This has to be ‘i897’ for the Ice Cream Sandwich AOSP ROM in order to be compatible with your own device-do not ever think about this if you love your own Android device.

Steps to Install the ICS Android 4.0 on the Captivate i897

The guideline is a short version of the complete and long guide for Installing the Ice Cream Sandwich on i9000 Galaxy S. And create a video also for this (the one shown above), so it is really suggested that you have a look at the guide also when you have some problems on the following below steps. But when your device (i897) does not require flashing of the kernel with which was required by i9000.

1. There is only one page for the download of this ICS port for all the Galaxy S or the variant devices. Just link in order to download page. Proceed there then download the ROM file 4.0 Android for your own device. The newest version is Alpha 7 and its file is to be downloaded is Alpha 7 Captivate.zip.(and always check its newest ROM version that is available for your own device in its download page then download and use the file ROM below )
2. Then you transfer its ROM in your own phone
3. Then power off your own phone.
4. And reboot in the recovery just by holding two of the volume keys then click power key.
5. Then flash its ROM with the use of install zip along the option SDCard.
6. And while your device is in the recovery mode still, pull the battery then after some two seconds so then place it back again.
7. Then reboot into the recovery mode the same way you have done at step 4.
8. And do the Factory reset/Wipe data.
9. Then Wipe its Cache Partition
10.  And now, you flash its ROM file twice more (with no worries) the way you did at step 5.
11. When you have done the flashing, choose reboot system now in order to reboot your own device.
12. The device must properly boot up having the Android 4.0 working wonderfully.
13.  When this does not boot up then stuck at the boot logo (the kernel screen) then you need to return into recovery and do the steps 7 &8 once again and then reboot (do not do the step 9),
14.  Then this time it will boot up great now. And when it does not you blame your own luck then repeat simply steps 4 until 9 again.
15.  When you experience a force closure in the market application, proceed to the Settings<applications<manage applications< all<Market< clear data. Then this will surely fix it.

When your 3G will not work, just do this:

When you boot up but still you cannot get a 3Gconnection, you must download this then place them in your own SD Card. And boot into the CWM and also flash the three enabled scripts, then the Superuser. You must reboot then set up your APN then install the script manager along the market. At the Script Manager, look/system/etc/init.d99enable 3G, choose it and choose run as root, run at the boot, and then run at the network change. Then save and exit then you reboot.
