Update Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000 to XXJVS Gingerbread 2.3.5 Firmware [How To]

Samsung has rolled out an update which was eagerly waiting from long time. You can now update Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000 to XXJVS Gingerbread 2.3.5 Firmware. Here we can go through the procedure to update your galaxy S with android 2.3.5 version and soon you can update with 2.3.6 version, we will let you know once the update gets official.

Though this is not the official update by samsung but it’s a beta version so, we are not sure about the outcome if you experiment this update on any different Smartphone.  We would like to make it very clear that this procedure is only and only applicable on Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000. The beta version has some enhancements and some bugs too which are not still fixed. Lets check out some enhancements in the beta update.

Enhancements:-

  • Power menu is extended
  • APN list is extended
  • Stock lockscreen
  • New CRT-off lock animation
  • There will be no more RAM hacks
  • SIP Over 3G and WiFi
  • Force errors in dialer and phone.apk is fixed now

Words of Advice:-

  • If you are a user of any custom ROM firmware i.e Simple Honey,Juicy Ginger,Extra Ordinary or any other Rom, so you are advised to make a back up of all your data that you have already done last time also.
  • Now you have to enter in the recovery mode, and select Wipe data/factory reset and along with that select Wipe catch partition, after that select Reboot system now and reboot it. This procedure will clear all the cache memory and now you can go through the procedure to update 2.3.5 ROM
  • You are also advised to disable all the voodoo products or apps if you are using it because it will converts the file system from RFS to EXT4, by disabling it the system work accordingly and successfully.

Information about Rooting-

You should be aware that updating your samsung galaxy S with android 2.3.5 doesn’t mean that you have rooted your mobile and after this update you will not loose your warranty. We should be thankful to Samsung that unlike Motorola,Sony Ericsson or HTC it doesn’t come with Boot loader policies.

Preparations-

  • Updating this firmware will erase all your data so its better if you create a proper back up of all your data available in your mobile such as SMS, Contacts, Music, Videos and Pictures.
  • All the data stored in your external SD Card will stay intact and no contents will be modified in the external SD card. So you can transfer all your data in your external/internal memory card so that it will not get corrupted or lost.
  • Or either you can store your contacts and messages locally in your computer or laptop.  See here how to back up your contacts and messages
  • You must make the note of APN Settings as well as the MMS Settings because they too will be erased, so you need to ensure that you back up of  all this settings somewhere so that you can then restore the same by configuring it manually once the firmware updating process is done. To note down Go to Applications >Settings> Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names.
  • Make it sure that your device has at least 90% of battery backup so that it will not interrupt the updating process.
  • Every firewall & antivirus must be disabled
  • Administrative privileges are required to download and install software including drivers.
  • USB 2.0 supportive port
  • Your phone must be fully charged before updating
  • Needs a USB cable
  • USB hub or docking station should be avoided.

Procedure to update Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000 to XXJVS Gingerbread 2.3.5 Firmware: -

  • Firstly you have to download Gingerbread XXJVS 2.3.5 Firmware kit and save it on the desktop. After that unzip it, and you can see 5 files in the folder that are:-
  • CODE_I9000XXJVS_CL565837_REV03_user_low_ship.tar,
    GT-I9000-CSC-MULTI-OXAJVS.tar,
    MODEM_I9000XXJVS_REV_00_CL1059471.tar,
    Odin3_v1.0.exe &
    s1_odin_20100512.pit
  • Now open Odin file i.e “Odin3_v1.0.exe” and then turn off your phone and enter into the download mode. To enter into the download mode you need to press Volume down key + Ok button and along with both the keys press the power button. You’ll see a green screen that means you are successfully enter into the download mode.
  • Connect you phone with your pc into the download mode via USB cable.
  • Once you connect the device to your pc, the ID:COM block in the odin will turn into yellow which means all the drivers have been successfully installed.
  • Now select the files given below

PIT  -  s1_odin_20100512.pit
PDA – CODE_I9000XXJVS_CL565837_REV03_user_low_ship.tar
Phone – MODEM_I9000XXJVS_REV_00_CL1059471.tar
CSC – GT-I9000-CSC-MULTI-OXAJVS.tar

  • Click on start after selecting those files and it will start the update process.
  • It will take 5 to 10 minutes to complete the update process and your phone will restart automatically and then select language preferences and region to acess Gmail and Android market Apps.
  • Now you need to enter into recovery mode by holding the Volume Up key + home button and along with both the keys press the power button. It will clear all the cache from your Samsung Galaxy GT-i9000 and then reboot your device by selecting reboot system now.
  • Now you have to check that your phone has successfully updated or not. You have to check here Settings > About Phone > Firmware Version

That’s all you are now done with the procedure and your Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000 is updated to XXJVS Gingerbread 2.3.5 Firmware if you have followed the instructions carefully.
