Step no.1 -You must download this ICS zip package Android 4.0 and to save your own computer. Then connect the phone into your own Personal Computer using the USB cable then transfer this file onto the root directory in your own phone’s SD card.

Step no.2- You must enable also the Debugging USB by proceeding to Settings>Applications> Development that ensure this debugging USB is enabled.

Step no. 3 -You must ensure that this device must be left having the minimum charge of 60 percent in order to make the device enter into the Recovery mode to expedite safer and smoother update of the firmware.

Step no.4 -You must turn off the Xperia Play from Sony then you must boot into the recovery mode. And as the device is rebooting, just boot to the Clockwork Mod Recovery having the help of its Volume keys click the power button to choose.

Step no. 5 -At the ClockworkMod Recovery, choose ‘wipe/data/factory reset’ and ‘wipe cache partition.’

Step no. 6 – Just select this ‘Install Zip along the SD card’ option then select the zip package that you have copied into your SD card first.

Step no. 7- When the file is chosen, you must have to wait until your device will get rebooted.

Step no.8 – And in case when you revert back again into the menu recovery, just choose this option of ++++ Go Back++++ then you must ‘reboot the system now’ to be able to restart your device in this Android 4.0 ICS firmware. When the device will not reboot, just re-insert its phone battery then you must re follow the entire procedure above mentioned.

At this point of time you have just successfully installed the ICS Android 4.0.3 in your own Xperia PLAY smartphone.  You can now enjoy your updated Xperia Play Sony Ericsson device having all those great and wonderful features mentioned above.
