Install CyanogenMod 9 to update Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on Motorola Milestone

There is a very great reason to celebrate for all the owners of this Motorola Milestone as this newest Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0.3 is available now for this device, and thanks to its developers of the CynogenMod Community for its continuing support in the delivery of this newest updates for several Android devices. And their current development, CyanogenMod9, that promises to the exact likeness of the Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.3 Android.

The update is not the official released update yet and /or endorsed by the Motorola but just an alternate way of having this Ice Cream Sandwich in your device. And this is just a bet version of this firmware, with some minor glitches and minor bugs are still present. The core features are really functioning well however the camera and the accelerated video decoding need further work still.

This Motorola Milestone is the traditional device with some prehistoric hardware (compared to the hadware of handsets as of today). But can still manage just to stand this test of time, proving to the just the worthy device capable of even the latest Android update. This Milestone has the 600 MHz CortezoA8 processor and the 3.7 inch display touchscreen. This handy slide-out keyboards creates it to be appealing for some business men that are looking for the physical keyboard for speedy and fast browsing and typing.

Warnings and Requirements

This update must not be applied into the phones that are locked currently into network carriers. When you apply this update in the network-locked device, then you can damage your own device.

Almost all of the Google Apps are installed in the ‘/data/vendor’, and so when you are arriving from the earlier CM9 build, you must use the ‘rm-r/system/*’ inside the recovery console prior to making any installation. This must be done to ensure that you do not run out of area when you are installing in the ‘/system’ due to the formerly installed applications in Google.

So you must have this Rooted Motorola Milestone, and then download Android 4.0.3 ICS for the Motorola Milestone, and then you must download Google apps for Motorola Milestones.

Instructions to follow:

  1. You must connect the device into your computer through the USB cable and then copy the ZIP Files downloaded in the root of your own Phone’s SD Card.
  2. Then you must disconnect your own phone along your PC.
  3. Just enable the USB debugging on your phone by just heading into the ‘Settings> Applications> Development> USB debugging.  Ensure that there will beside this option.
  4. And then just turn off your own phone.
  5. Click and hold the button ‘X’ and then click the button Power until your own device boots into the recovery.
  6. Then click and hold the button Volume up and then click the button to get into the recovery mode.
  7. And once you are inside this recovery mode, just choose the  option ‘Clear storage’ so as to clear all out the data along the former ROM.
  8. Then choose the ‘Install zip along the SD card’ then select the Cyanogen Mod 9 Zip file that you must have copied before. This installation will start and then will take up to 5-10 minutes for this process to finish them. Just after this ROM is flashed, simply perform this same step for this Google applications package.
  9. After being completed, just choose +++Go Back+++ and return into the menu main.
  10. Then choose ‘Reboot system now’ to restart your own device.

Congratulations! Your own Motorola Milestone is running now in Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0.3 after updated Cyanogen Mod 9.
