How to Install Official Android 4.0 ICS Firmware on Samsung Galaxy SII

Finally Samsung Galaxy SII has received the Official ICS Firmware. In the last couple of weeks we have seen SG SII has received so many roms, ruu leaks and so on.  A few weeks before when Samsung announced to roll out ICS for the ever popular Samsung Galaxy line-up, everybody knew that it’s a matter of time before OTA wiould be captured and the instructions were released.

And here we are, xda Forum Member Faryaab, has posted the instructions on how to root your newly updated device with Android 4.0 ICS and if you are not lucky enough to have the ics already updated, the instructions in the post will manually update your device by installing it.

All you have to do is wipe your device before flashing and download the Official ICS 4.0 ICS Firmware for Samsung Galaxy SII and follow the below given instructions:-

When the package you downloaded have only 1 file:-

1. Extract the downloaded firmware file.
2. Open the Odin tool given in the folder.
3. Enter download mode by pressing Home+ Volume Down + Power button together.
4. Click on PDA and select the *.tar.md5 file.
5. At last click on Start.

When the package you downloaded have 3 files :-

1. Extract the downloaded firmware file.
2. Open the Odin tool given in the folder.
3. Enter download mode by pressing Home+ Volume Down + Power button together.
4. Click PDA and select I9100_CODE_*.tar.md5
5. Click PHONE and select MODEM_*.tar.md5
6. Click CSC and select GT-I9100-MULTI-CSC-*.tar.md5
7. Then finally click on Start.

How to Root Samsung Galaxy SII after the Official ICS firware Update:-

1. Extract the rooting kernel firmware file.
2. Open the Odin tool given the folder.
3. Enter in Download Mode.
4. Click PDA and Select CF-Root-SGS2_*-v5.3-CWM5.tar
5. At last Click on Start.

Congratulations, SGS2 is now up to date and rooted with the latest in Google-flavored tasty treats.Don’t forget to make a back up in case. Original thread.
