Sony S Tablet at a Glance

After substantial and eye-popping Sony commercials, Sony finally unveiled their much anticipated Honeycomb Android tablets.  It has been named the ‘Sony Tablet S’ and ‘Tablet P’ they are ready now to swing. Just recently Sony has proclaimed that both the Tablet P and S devices and you will enjoy as you review the rundown and feature of this device.

Now what we have here available is the Tablet S Sony and that is the name officially proclaimed. It comes out with 3.1 Android but was quickly updated to Android Honeycomb 3.2 which is the latest version. This tablet boasts of a resolution 9.4�? display of 1280×800 has superior colors, distinctive black and lesser glare with “TruBlack�? Sony screen technology. You almost cannot see the screen difference with most tablets 10.1�? until you put them together in one side.

It’s Hardware

With its display of 9.4″ IPS LED and distinctively like design magazine fold, it is powered by a dual-core.  You can see the Tegra 2 double-core NVIDIA, processor of GHz 1.0, RAM 1GB and internal storage 16GB under the hood. For additional storage, it has USB micro and SD full size slot. Because the full size SD is more spacious and less expensive than SDHC, you have much more storage capabilities and options available.

As you can see the above photo, the S Tablet is uniquely designed almost similar to a cover magazine that is folded around its back. This feature makes holding and grip easier and with excellent management and weight-balancing, it is very comfortable to hold. The Tab Galaxy maybe slimmer, but Sony Tablet S is more comfortable to hold and doesn’t wear you down.

The button power (has LED indicator when charging), the volume setting, reset pin hole and the screen stereo speaker are located around the right side of the device.

The sync port and the good charging plug hole are comfortably located at the bottom. The tablet won’t charge without the cable for charging, it is a necessity that you don’t lose or forget the cable.

The USB Micro and SD slot full sized (covered with a door that is removable) together with the 3.5 mm headphone jack is at the left side. The other speaker grill is found along side and for safe and easy carrying, a small spot attached a lanyard (included) is also featured.

The rear and top are also distinct with textured finish so as not to leave fingerprints on it and enables one to have a firm grip so you don’t worry about dropping the tablet. To protect from scratch when putting down the tablet, a rubber feet around is provided.

Generally the hardware is fairly impressive. Though the components are created from a durable plastic it feels expensive and durable with its extra-ordinary light weight. The unique design was carefully planned, its weight distribution and management makes it is suitable for everyday use. You will like this tablet with its unique design, light weight and its various other approach.

It’s Software
Although Android Honeycomb 3.2 is not new, it continues to be running and stable as it was (But expect updates soon). If you know much about Honeycomb, Sony has included some customized changes. One is, observe the top of the main screen, few buttons were added

These may not be so significant but for convenience’s sake on everyday use as you no longer waste time looking for the browser or email. The entire design, layout, background and color has all been changed from the standard Honeycomb interface.

Another innovation made was the customization of the music and video with its distinct design and set up. You can arrange your music albums as it suits you because of the music player’s superb layout idea. Just click the album title and the music starts playing.

The favorites tab on the home screen is the last considerable change in the interface. Instantly it will open all recently browsed programs, besides, you can arrange your favorite stuffs. With this, you can put all your favorite items in one place.

Camera and Battery
The battery was tested with t least 10 hours of usage from moderate to intensive use and it yields positive result. At one time it was used for 6 hours unplugged and the battery consumed only 40% battery life. With responsible use, you can see a significant 24 hours plus of battery standby time.

The main camera is 5MP and a VGA front camera for video chat and they are at par with most tablets.
