How to Backup Stock Rom on any Android Device with Clockworkmod Rom Manager

Android is one of the very few OS that welcome the independent ideas of developers and allow modifying, tweaking, hacking, and customizing their android device in the way they want because of its open nature. But sometimes after customizing your android device or running a custom rom on your android device, it might happen that you miss the official Android 4.0 OTA update by your carrier unless you revert back to the stock rom of your Android Device. So it is always advisable to make a backup of your stock rom in case you want to receive the official OTA update or any damage to your phone because of custom roms. Having a stock rom backup, you can restore it any time.

In the due course of article we will be discussing how to back stock rom on nay android device using ClockWorkMod Rom Manager, but the procedure only applies for rooted device. If you are already a rooted device user you can skip the first step which is rooting your android device and move to Download ROM Manager for nandroid and if you are not a rooted device user follow the first step.

  • The first and foremost step before you make a backup of your stock rom is to root your android device. To root your device you can follow our guide on Root Any Android Device with Unlock Root and follow the backup procedure after it.
  • Once you have rooted your android device, you are now ready to make a back up of your stock rom. NO doubt there are various apps and tools available on the web for nandroid but we are using the “ClockWorkMod ROM manager” application. Download ClockworkMod ROM Manager
  • After you have installed the Rom Manager, you need to install Recovery Image of your device. Rom Manager will automatically find the suitable recovery image of your device and you just have to tap on flash ClockWorkMod Recovery. Then you will have to confirm your device model and install the custom recovery
  • Once you have finished the installation of Recovery Image, tap on “Backup Current ROM” and then your device will reboot into normal mode. The backup will store in your SD Card under the path of ClockWorkMod-backup. You can now place this backup anywhere you want.

So, now when you have a back up of your stock rom and anything goes wrong with the current custom rom you are running or with the official ota update issue, you can easily revert back to Original Stock rom by using Rom manger on your device and then select Manage and Restore Backup”, click on restore and your device will boot and that’s it you will get back to the original settings.
