Installing HoneyComb Firmware to root in Google Nexus S

There are certain procedures that must be followed in order to root it. And these procedures must be strictly followed to have a successful rooting with the Honeycomb firmware super boot. It is necessary that you must follow these instructions in order to properly root it. The steps for procedures in installing the honeycomb firmware must be taken into consideration step by step so that the Nexus S device will not be destroyed. Proper care must be done in order that the data may be restored and backed up. This is because there is a possibility that all the important features like the sms, calls and application may be removed during the process.

Methods of rooting Nexus S with Honeycomb firmware super boot.

It is necessary that you check the version that your device is on whether you are in the GRH78 or the GRH55 and these are two different versions. Be sure also that the boot loader of your Nexus S is already unlocked by following the simple steps below:

  1. You must turn off the phone.
  2. Turn down the volume up + power in order to set the Nexus S in the Standard Recovery Mode.
  3. You must open command prompt (Windows) or Terminal (Mac OS X) in your computer.
  4. Then the ‘fast boot devices’ (without quotes always) to determine if your phone is connected through USB.
  5. The ‘adb reboot boot loader’ must be typed.
  6. Then type ‘fast boot oem unlock’ also
  7. “Yes, unlock boot loader’ must be selected by using volume keys
  8. Then select option by using power button
  9. It is finished!  Successful unlocking of boot loader

Next after the Nexus S boot loader is already unlocked, you must download the Honeycomb firmware Super boot for Gingerbread GRH78 or the Gingerbread GRH55 accurately.  You must get the downloaded zip file in the directory.

Follow the methods below if you are on Mac, Linux or Ubuntu to have a successful rooting.

*Then when all of these are done you must place your Nexus S to the boot loader mode by turning off the phone, hold then press the power buttons and the volume up to begin the boot loader mode.

*Then double click the install-super- boot-windows-bat-file in order to get the root access.

For Nexus S Mac OS X rooting:

  1. Free the Terminal
  2. Go to the directory from where you have taken the files in the terminal.
  3. “chmod + x “install superboot-mac.sh must be typed.
  4. Then type /install-superboot-mac.sh
  5. Then you have to wait until the process is completed.

For Nexus S Linux, Ubuntu rooting:

  1. The terminal must be opened.
  2. Then move to the directory from which you have taken the files trough the terminal.
  3. Also type this : chmod + x install-superboot-mac.sh
  4. Then type :/install-superboot-mac.sh
  5. Just wait for the completion of the process.

When all of these methods are followed you can easily root the Samsung Nexus S by installing Honeycomb firmware. If you still encounter problems you must let us be informed and we will try to solve it.
