Steps to Root the HTC Hero [How to]

The best part about Smartphone’s or android devices are that you can you can make them more comfortable and customize any way you want. Rooting your HTC Hero android phone enables you to have a more control over your device. If you owe a HTC hero then you can customize it in your own way by rooting it. Rooting will improve its features and your further experience with it. Rooting your device can be pretty much easy for techies but also it can be as much difficult for newbie’s. Here we are providing the procedure to root HTC Hero but ensure that you must follow the steps carefully and completely. A single mistake you made and things can go terribly wrong. And remember this that the procedure is only for HTC hero and for no other device, follow this instruction for only HTC Hero.

Things to do before rooting: -

  • Once you root HTC hero, it will not be under warranty anymore. But no need to worry you will get it back once you un-root it.
  • Rooting your device will erase all your data available in your device, so it’s better to make a back up. You can store your data like images, videos, audios into memory card Messages and contacts should be back up with software.

  • Make it sure that your device have at least 90% of battery back so it didn’t interrupt the process and your phone will not switch off automatically.
  • You must make the note of APN Settings as well as the MMS Settings because they too will be erased, so you need to ensure that you back up of  all this settings somewhere so that you can then restore the same by configuring it manually once the rooting process is done. To note down Go to Applications >Settings> Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names.

Steps to root HTC Hero: -

  • Firstly, you have to download the file from here in your pc and save it on the desktop.
  • Install this file into your device with the help of USB cable. Now you have to mount the SD card by HTC alert menu and install it using drivers (windows has already detect it).
  • Now extract the file into two different folders.
  • Open the Android’s SDK folder and then open the tool folder inside it.
  • Copy two files from boot image.zip, or 1.b to the tool folder.

  • Switch off your phone and turn it on holding the back key. The boot will start booting our fastboot screen. You can see the white screen and three androids at the boot that means you are going in right direction.
  • Now go to start in your pc and open cmd.exe file on run. You have to change the directory to the tools that were created before.
  • Then you have to run  fastboot.exe boot boot.img.insecure while you are in the tools directory.
  • Now it will indicate you that it is downloading and booting.

Rooting process is going on and to access it open HTC Sync by alerts menu and ignore the notification message in windows. Now again open cmd.exe and type adb.exe shell. You can see a number sign as a output. When you see the pound sign “₤” run this command

mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system , this will build up the phone’s file system in RW mode. Run the su command to your phone and also run the below commands separately.

  • cat /system/bin/sh > /system/bin/su
  • chmod 4755 /system/bin/su
  • reboot

That’s it your HTC Hero is rebooted now and it will load stock ROM.
