How to Update Google Nexus S 4G with Cyanogen 7.1

The guideline that will allow you to the procedure of holding a 4G Nexus S along its stock into having the capability to flash the newest model of CyanogenMod.

Create the backup-Prior to doing anything.

Do not forget to have your data backed up. When you have a device having Google account and the Gmail, calendar, contact & other data that are Google-related will never be lost then will also return just after its next sync. The Bootloader Unlocking

Warning- The unlocking of the 4G Nexus S’s bootloader may void its warranty.

When the Nexus S Bootloader has been unlocked already, then you can skip this portion.

  • You will be in need of the fastboot in the personal computer in order to unlock the bootloader in the 4G Nexus S.
  • Just power down the Nexus S and then hold the Power button and the Volume up until it is really booted in the bootloader. You may view the white screen having three Androids sliding.
  • Then connect the 4G Nexus in the personal computer through USB.
  • In the personal computer you must open its terminal and then run: fastboot oem unlock
  • In the 4G Nexus a symbol may open and will ask you whether you are really sure that you want to have the bootloader unlocked and will warn you that in doing so must really void its warranty. When you agree to the terms just click on the Volume Up and choose yes then click the button Power to

Note: Unlocking this bootloaders certainly wipes its device.

  1. Then the 4G Nexus S will now reboot.

Install the Recovery ClockworkMod Image

When you have flashed the recovery image custom, you can disregard this portion.

  • Download the newest version of a ClockworkMod Recovery:

  • Put the Recovery Image of ClockworkMod at the similar folder as the fastboot (the folder tools through the folder of Android SDK).
  • Power down the 4G Nexus S then hold up its Volume and its Power button until it is booted in the bootloader. Then you can find a white screen having three Androids sliding.
  • And then you connect the 4G Nexus in the personal computer through USB.
  • In the personal computer, you must open the terminal and then run:
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-3.1.0.1-crespo4g.img
  • The Recovery ClokcworkMod must be installed now in the 4G Nexus S.

CyangenMod Flashing

Note- To flash the CyanogenMod through ROM Manager, the root access is really required. Acquiring root access is distant from within the wiki page’s scope.

Recovery via Method

  • Download the newest CyanogenMod version.

  • Once this device boots in the Recovery ClockworkMod, you must used the volume buttons’ side for moving around then either the trackball or the power button in order to choose.

Optional- Choose the restore and backup to make the backup of the newest installation in the 4G Nexus S.

  • Then choose the Factory reset/Wipe Data option.
  • Choose Install zip along the SD Card.
  • Choose Select zip along the SD Card.
  • Choose the update.zip CyanogenMod.

Optional-Install this Google applications by doing steps seven to nine again then select the Google applications update.zip.

When the installation is done, choose ****Go Back****in order to return

In to its main menu, then choose the option Reboot system at once. The 4G Nexus S must boot now into the CyanogenMod.

ROM Manager via Method

  • 1. ROM Manager must be launched.

Optional- Select a first option on the application, then flash Recovery ClockworkMod to have the newest version update.

  • Choose the option ROM download along its main menu on its ROM Manager.
  • Choose the option CyanogenMod then select the newest version of the CyanogenMod along the menu.

Optional- If you choose the newest version of the CyanogenMod, you must check the option Google applications.

  • Once this ROM is done downloading, then it will ask if you like to back up the Existing ROM Cache and Wipe Data.
  • When Superuser prompts to have permission to root, you must check in order to Remember and then to Allow.
  • This 4G Nexus S will reboot now in the recovery, cache and wipe data then easily install CyanogenMod. When it is done in the installation then it must reboot in the CyanogenMod.
