Rooting your android 2.3 gingerbread with Gingerbread apk is the easiest way. You can use this amazing one clicking tool and the credit goes to XDA Developers Forum member Chainfire. This exploit can also work on some versions of froyo and honeycomb.

The apk file sets the files on the right place to run the exploit. Then it try to attain root access and if it succeed, it remounts system as read-write and runs this installer script.

Here are the steps to root Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread Smartphone’s with Gingerbreak:-

  • Download Gingerbread.apk file from here
  • Extract the zip file and save it on the desktop.
  • Connect your phone to pc.
  • Mount SD card as flash drive.
  • Copy the gingerbread.apk file to your sd card root.
  • You should have debugger and File manager on your phone.
  • Disconnect your phone from pc.
  • Follow the instruction on your screen on file manager to install apk file to your phone from sd card root.
  • Open the apk file after the installation completes.
  • Click on the root button
  • The apk exploit will run for 10 minutes usually and that’s it your phone is done rebooted.
  • You must have super user app installed
  • You can now uninstall Gingerbreak as it has no use now.

Note: As this is the second version of apk you can have some issues with this. apk is just to make the process easier but it can also happens that it might not work on your device. Do this at your own risk, we are not responsible for any damage on your phone

Gingerbread has a code in it and is not specific to any particular device so, it might not work on your device. The exploit is generic but it doesn’t mean one size fits all, nor does it mean that there will be no firmware’s out there that fix this exploit
