Manually Update MyTouch 3G to Android 2.2.1 Froyo [How to]

The official updated for MyTouch 3G are due in December. If you are among the persons who do not like waiting then  you are on the right page, in this article we will deal with the procedure to upgrade MyTouch 3G to Android 2.2.1 Froyo manually.

Words of advice:

The discussed procedure is only applicable for the MyTouch 3G model without 3.5 mm audio jack. Moreover, we are not sure about the outcome if you experiment this update on any different Smartphone.  We would like to make it very clear that this procedure is only and only applicable on MyTouch 3G.

Preparations:

Go through the following points before trying to implement any update. Have a look:

  • Create a proper backup of data present over phone.
  • Ensure availability of a compatible USB cable for connecting MyTouch 3G with PC. Moreover, disable Antivirus solutions and firewalls on PC before connecting with phone.
  • Ensure a minimum 80% of battery is left in phone before attempting the update. If not, then charge the battery before continuing. (If the phone become dead in-between the process then there is a great possibility that it may not wake up forever )
  • Write down the important settings such as APN on paper because the internal memory will be washed during update. You will need those settings to reconfigure phone.

Procedure:

  • Download these files on PC/laptop:
  • Now, you will need to restore the factory settings of the phone. Follow: Settings >> SD Card and Phone Storage >> Factory data reset > Reset Phone.  Wait for processing to complete and then reboot the phone.
  • Now, connect phone with PC and copy. Rename file 1 as Update.zip. Then copy update.zip to root of the SD card (not in any folder).
  • Switch-off the phone and then boot up the phone by pressing home button +power buttons and a screen will appear with a triangle. (recovery mode)
  • Then select “Apply sdcard:update.zip”
  • Wait for processing to complete

Now, repeat the process with second file (renaming it as update.zip, replacing old update.zip on sdcard and then Apply sdcard: update.zip) and wait for successful completion.
