How to Update Sony Ericsson Arc with Gingerbread 2.3.4

Bootloader Unlocking

Warning- This Xperia Arc Sony Ericsson Bootloader unlocking may void its warranty.

  • You will be needing fastboot in the personal computer to unlock this bootloader of your Xperia Arc Sony Ericsson. Just follow this Android SDK guideline in order to have the fastboot shell in the computer.
  • In the Xperia Arc Sony Ericsson, you may open the application Phone and then enter **06**. This will surely show the IMEI on the device, you must write it down because you will need it later.
  • The Xperia Arc Sony Ericsson must be powered off.
  • The hold & click the menu button as you are connecting Xperia Arc Sony Ericsson in the computer.
  • In the computer you must open the terminal and then run the corresponding instruction:

fastboot -i 0x0fce getvar version

Note:  The step is to make sure the Xperia Arc Sony Ericsson is properly connected and that the drivers are properly setup too. When you get this waiting for device, then we can say that something is not properly setup.

When everything is looking great, proceed in here. The bootloader is unlocked now in the Xperia Arc Sony Ericsson. Then continue on to the next section.

CyanogenMod Flashing

  • You must download the newest CyanogenMod version.

  • Then you must extract the boot.img along the update.zip CyanogenMod and then copy it on to the similar folder as fastboot (the folder tools along the folder of the Android SDK).
  • Put the update.zip CyanogenMod file in the root of the card SD.

Optional- Put the Google Application.zip in the root of the card SD too.

  • You must disconnect the Xperia Arch Sony Ericsson along the personal computer and then must be powered off.
  • Hold and click the Menu button while it is connecting the Xperia Arc Sony Ericsson on to the personal computer.
  • In the personal computer you must open the terminal and must run the following instruction:

fastboot -i 0xfce flash boot boot.img
fastboot -i 0xfce reboot

  • When the device is rebooting click the Volume Rockers  for some times in order to reboot on the Recovery ClockworkMod.
  • And once the handset boots in the Recovery ClockworkMod, you must employ the Volume Rocker side to turn around & to select the Power button.

Optional- Just select restore & backup to make a current installation backup in this Xperia Arc Sony Ericsson.

  • Then you must choose the Factory reset/Wipe Data option.
  •  And you must choose also the Wipe partition cache option.
  •  Then choose install zip along the sdcard.
  • And from the sdcard select the Choose zip.
  •  Then choose the update.zip CyanogenMod.

Optional- You must install the applications Google by doing steps 7-9 once again and choose the update.zip Google apps.

  • And once this installation has been finished, just choose ***Go Back*** in order to get back in the main menu, and then select the option Reboot System now. The Xperia Arc Sony Ericsson must boot now in the CyanogenMod.
