Install ICS 4.0.4 on Nook Color via CM9 – How to

The Barnes and Noble Nook Color is a multipurpose device. We have seen so many roms and enhancements happening to the nook color in a while and CyanogenMod Team is trying to support the device officially right from the beginning and the android community has turned this 7 inch e-reader into a fully functional android tablet.

We have previously covered triple boot nook color with CM9, CM7 and Stock and now the latest unofficial CyanogenMod 9 ICS nightly build has landed on to the device bringing the 4.0.4 ics. The update is available in two versions that is one with OpenGL and one is without OpenGL.

In the words of developer:-

These builds are all straight sync with CM source with no additional mods. Builds are sync’d at 3am EST for non-openGL and 3.30am EST for openGL – they will be available to download approx 15 mins after their sync times.

So what does OpenGL rendering mean? It means we have some form of hardware acceleration for the UI and apps. It is not full hw accel and it is not hw video decoding. The couple of things you’ll notice work is wallpaper scrolling in the launcher and chrome beta will mostly work to render webpages but will fc if you go into settings. Flash also somewhat works – I’ve found you definitely need to OC to get some flash videos to work, most still are not smooth.

Thanks to XDA Senior member eyeballer , the Nook Color is now able to run on Android ICS 4.0.4 and those who want to taste it can head over to rom thread for the download links and feedback from other users. Be sure to make a backup because you will have to wipe everything while installing the nightly build.
