Unlock/Enable NFC on AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note Stock Rom – How to

It seems only like yesterday when AT&T fans were jumping with the news of getting NFC Chip with 4G LTE to fuel their Samsung Galaxy Note. And then suddenly came the news that AT&T has European version – N7000 – does not sport an NFC antenna for some reason, with all the fun that were going on with NFC (Near Field Communication), from using Google wallet to make real life purchases, using your device as a key, to sharing contacts and other info, it’d be a shame to have a NFC chip in your device and not be able to use it. But we were sure that android community will sure and soon find a way to enable it  anyway and here comes that day.

Korean version of the Galaxy Note is able to use NFC. Thanks to XDA Forum Member fox689, users of AT&T Samsung galaxy note can now enable NFC on their devices. In the words of developer:-

This flash contains an xml permissions file and the Tag.apk from the Canadian ROMs.
Once you’ve flashed this you will have the option to turn on NFC in Wireless Settings as well as be able to install NFC apps from the Play Market.

  1. First and the foremost thing you need to do is to make backup of your device.  We at Androidxpert.com will not be liable if any damage cause to your device.
  2. Download the g_note_nfc_on_fox689.zip
  3. Reboot your device into recovery if you have already installed ClockWorkMod Recovery. To get into recovery mode hold the power, volume up and the home button simultaneously.
  4. Navigate your device by Volume up and Volume down keys, and select the “install zip from sd card” > “choose zip from sd card” > and select the “g_note_nfc_on_fox689.zip”
  5.  Once the zip file is updated successfully, you now need to select “++++ Go Back ++++”.
  6. Restart your device and that’s it. Now you have a NFC enable chip in your device.

After enabling NFC on your AT&T Galaxy Note, you can make use of NFC related apps and features on your device. However the Google wallet app might not be supported that’s only because its only available on Galaxy Nexus Devices at the moment. Now you can have the endless possibilities with this app on your device. Congrats!
