How to install CM9 ICS on Samsung Galaxy W

Every phone, now and then, is getting CM9 updates and now it’s the time for the device which most people have already think will never get the ics update as the CM Mods are limited to high end phones until any enterprising owner of ignored device takes up the responsibility and decided to get more on his device. We are talking about a mid range device Galaxy W which comes with 3.7οΏ½? inch display and 512Mb ram which is not what you called a high end Smartphone. Regardless of all these, the device has made it proud and is now getting alpha version of CM9.

After over 3 months of work, 2 hard-bricks (and a few soft-bricks) and a lot of coffee, XDA Recognized Developer arco68 Β has managed to release the first alpha version of CM9 for the Samsung Galaxy W (GT-I8150). However as the build is in its alpha stages, most of the major functions are working. Here is the list of what is working and what is not:-

What’s working:
Audio
Receiving and making calls
GPS
Compass
Proximity sensor
Wifi
Bluetooth
USB mass storage
HW accelerated gui
HW accelerated video

Not working:
Camera
USB tethering
No sound for calls over Bluetooth
FM radio

The build itself comes in the form of a flashable update.zip, so installation is a breeze. All you have to do is first flash CM5,wipe data and cache, flash update.zip , reboot and boom. You have successfully installed CM9 in your Samsung Galaxy W Smartphone. The developer has also advised for some apps to avoid bricking and if own a Galaxy W and want to try out the build head over to XDA thread for more information.
