How to Flash the Custom Recovery and Root the Galaxy Nexus 4G LTE

Now as the Koush has recently officially released Clockworkmod Recovery in its LTE version it is the right time also to root your own Galaxy Nexus. There have been the best manual instructions posted for all of you because when you have this Nexus you must probably know all of the standard fastboot and standard adb commands well. This is not difficult by all means specially now knowing that this will let you have all the set up of SDK just after the unlocking of your bootloader. This will take only about 15 minutes more or less. Are you now ready?

Custom Recovery Rooting as well as Flashing:

Steps to unlock your phone bootloader.

  • You must download Recovery ClockworkMod for this GalaxyNexus
  • Put this file at your folder SDK/Tools (similar place as the adb.exe).
  • Then download the file superuser aka its root file
  • Put that file on your folder SDK/Tools.
  • And then open the command prompt along and within your own Tools folder then type this:
adb push su.zip /sdcard/
  • Now then reboot on a bootloader:
adb reboot bootloader
  • If the menu boot loads, just flash the latest recovery mode:
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.5.0.4-toro.img
  • If this is finished, then use your device volume keys in order to highlight the ‘Recovery Mode’, click power to choose it.
  • Then scroll in to let ‘Install zip along the sdcard’.
  • And then ‘Select zip along sdcard’.
  •  And select the file ‘su.zip’ and also install this.
  • If this is done, you back out in the recovery and then reboot this system.
  •  You just enjoy your device being rooted,
  •  And then afterwards, you may like to install the ROM Manager along the market then allow it to re-flash the recovery just for you.

Make your first backup:

    • And now as you are already rooted and then have the custom recovery, it is also time to create your own first new clear backup.
    • At the ROM Manager, you must flash again the Clockwork Recovery (this is its first option at top).
    • And then touch the option in rebooting into the recovery in the below of this.
    • When in the recovery you must scroll down into ‘backup and restore’.
    • Select ‘backup’ and allow your device to create the backup.
    • Once finished you must back out the reboot and recovery the system

Permanent Recovery Clockwork (through XDA):

  • You must install the Root Explorer along the market then delete /system/reboot from –recovery –Mount as R/W first.
  • Then you must reboot in the Fastboot Mode. You must power off the phone and (up and down Volume+Power).
  • Then flash the CWM (fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork 5.5.0.4-toro.imh)
  • Then reboot in the OS (reboot fastboot)
  • And now you have the CWM recovery installed permanently
