How to Install Amazon Kindle Fire’s Silk Browser in Rooted Android Device

While this kindle Fire was announced, the biggest trick about this was the addition of the Silk Browser from Amazon.  The browser was spoken to increase substantially loading speeds, but this was exclusive with the kindle Fire. The Android users not being follower of limitations did get some break when the good gentlemen from XDA Developers handled to have this browser up and working in devices that are rooted.

Whether or not you want this browser or not is mostly a good personal preference. The widespread superiority of reports and reviews prove that this browser is by no indication that this is faster than others. Despite of the Amazon’s claims, this cloud-based caching on this browser will bring more delay just slowing its experience down with 1-3 seconds. But you may make it a little bit faster by just turning off the accelerated loading page, though. This Silk Browser reduces bandwidth consumption that will very well be the best advantage for the tiered plan data users.

One of the outstanding aspects of the Kindle Fire Amazon tablet is the stock browser named Silk Browser. Even until now, this browser was available only to users of Kindle Fire, but hats off to the XDA Developer’s member TyHi who has managed to port this successfully into other Android devices. This process works currently for rooted devices only, that involves the side-loading of some of APKs and pushing some files into your device’s system directory. When you are excited in getting the flavor of this Silk browser in your own device Android, please join us after the break for the guide steps.

In order to learn more about this root access and how to get this, please check out the compilation of the root guides for devices Android. All users with the rooted devices may proceed as follows:

  • Just download the package of installation along the XDA forums
  • Then extract all the files included through this package, and then transfer them into your SD card/storage of your own device.
  • And by using this root-leveled file explorer (Root Explorer e.g.) just select then copy all these files along the transferred System/lib folder into your device’s/system/lib folder. Then you will have to mount the R/W permission for this destination folder to complete its operation.
  • And now install all these APKs that are included within this ported System/App folder.
  • Then just copy the com.amazon.cloud9-1.apk file along the transferred /sdcard/System/App folder into the similar directory within the internal memory of your own device.

You just reboot your own device and Viola! You have now the Amazon’s Silk Browser.

Some have managed to test this browser in HTC Desire Z running the CMT.1 with just mixed results. And while these websites were rendered and loaded as these must, there were clear problems with this app and just adjusting to its smaller screen size comparatively of this device in question specifically while this is running in portrait mode.

If still you are interested in trying this out the application in your own Android tablet or smartphone (for example your Nook tablet) then go for it. You just enjoy your Android tablet or phone having this Silk browser.
