Root Samsung Galaxy S2 GT I9100 on Gingerbread 2.3.5 XXKI3 Firmware[How to]

Many people have updated their Samsung Galaxy S2 GT I9100 with the more stable XXKI3 Gingerbread 2.3.5 Firmware. It allows them better experience of use. To make it even better, you can root the phone over the update. Let me tell you how to do that but be sure that you really want to go with it. Once you root the phone, you may not get the warranty facilities.

Things to do before rooting

  • Before doing anything else, you must take back ups from your phone memory to save data. Use the Android sync to save all you contacts in the Google server. You can download them later.
  • There are many apps that you can use to take back up of your messages. The apps also allow you to restore the messages once the rooting process is completed.
  • The only way to save the settings, of your Samsung Galaxy S2 GT I9100, is to write them down somewhere. The internet setting must be copied exactly how it is then re entering after the rooting.
  • The media files are the easiest ones to save. Just copy all of them to the SD memory card. They all will remain intact in there.
  • The battery of Samsung Galaxy S2 GT I9100 should be fully charged before starting the rooting procedure. You need to do this to make sure that your phone doesn’t turn off itself while on the middle of the procedure.
  • You need a PC for the entire rooting process. Make sure that the PC has Windows XP or above installed in it. Updated USB drivers are also necessary. If you have antivirus programs in your PC then turn that off for now. Keep the USB cable of Samsung Galaxy S2 GT I9100 with you.

Process for rooting

  •  Search the zip file for XXKI3 Gingerbread 2.3.5 Firmware rooting package online. Download it on your PC and extract the files on your desktop.
  • From the extracted files, you will find one executable one named Odin. Run this file and leave the software window as it is.
  • You need to turn your Samsung Galaxy S2 GT I9100 in download mode. Turn off your phone first and then turn it on again while pressing the Volume Down button and the Ok button. This will enable the download mode.
  • Connect the phone with the PC by using the USB cable. You will see that Odin will indicate that the phone is connected.
  • Click the PDA tab from Odin and you will be asked to load a specific file named CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KI3-v4.1-CWM4. You will find it from the extracted files.
  • Once the file is loaded in Odin, click Start button and your Samsung Galaxy S2 GT I9100 will be started to be rooted.
  • It will take no more than 10 minutes for the rooting process to be completed. Once its done, the phone will restart automatically. The rooting is completed.

Once the Samsung Galaxy S2 GT I9100 is rooted, enter the recovery mode and select the option to clear cache from the memory. That will complete the process.

    Thank you for the information. Will this procedure work with the Samsung Stratosphere on Verizon? It too runs Android 2.3.5.
