Tutorial to root Moto Xoom [How to]

Motorola Xoom is good tablet PC based on Honeycomb 3.0. It includes a 10.2 inches capacitive touch screen and a powerful ARM cortex A9 processor. If you are a moto xoom owner and interested in rooting, then read further. So, let us proceed with rooting procedure. Have a look:

Note that the procedure discussed below is only applicable for moto xoom and shall not be experimented with any other Smartphone (not even with the phones with similar look/configuration).  If you do so then it can prove highly disastrous for that devise. Also, check that the device is not locked.

Getting prepared:

Have a look over the following points:

  • Ensure availability of a compatible USB cord to connect phone with PC.
  • Create backup of all necessary data present on your moto xoom. Backup contacts by syncing with Google. Backup can also be created with help of an application named “Astro file manager”.
  • Disable all antivirus, firewall and KIES software installed on PC. Those may hinder the process by creating conflicts.
  • Charge the battery to a minimum 60% before moving any further regarding this update. If anyhow, the phone becomes dead in-between the process then phone might not wake-up forever.

To unlock the boot loader on your Xoom

  • Make sure that you have the installed the latest Motorola USB drivers and android SDK.
  • After that, open the command prompt within the Android SDK (“Shift + Right Click >> “Open command window here” )
  • Execute >>  “adb reboot bootloader”
  • The phone will reboot in the bootloader mode showing “Starting fast boot protocol support”
  • Execute >>  ”fastboot OEM unlock”
  • Ignore the warning and accept with the help of volume up key.

Rooting Xoom:

  • Now, download the XoomRoot.zip and extract the contents in the SDK tools folder
  • Open the command prompt as earlier execute:
    • adb reboot bootloader
    • fastboot flash boot rootboot.img
    • fastboot reboot
  • wait for reboot and then execute the command
    • adb remount
    • adb push su /system/bin
    • adb shell ln –s /system/bin/su /system/xbin/su
  • Now,  you will see the options,
    • Push Superuser.apk in adb.  Type:  adb push Superuser.apk /system/app
    • Exit adb and download Superuser app from the market.
  • Now, you are done! You have successfully rooted your Motorola xoom.
