How to Re-partition Barnes & Nobles Nook Tablet

Earlier this week Barnes and Noble announced re-partition for their ever popular Nook Tablet. If you have rooted your 16GB Nook Tablet, you may noticed that there is only 1GB internal memory in media and 11 GB in their /data partitions. That means only 1GB is available for you to download from web or transfer from computer and the rest is reserved for the downloads such as apps, books and other that you do from Nook Shop.

Because of this non-favorable partition scheme users started to fix this indiscretion. There are ways by which you can access more of that disk space, either you can root your nook tablet or you can replace the OS with Custom Roms. One other way which Barnes and Noble has promised is to take your nook tablet to the B&N store, and ask someone behind the counters to re-configure your Nook Tablet. As reported, your 16GB Nook Tablet will be partitioned in 8GB for your personal use and 5.5 GB will be still reserved for apps, books and other downloads from Nook Shop. There’s no need to partition the 8GB Tablet, as it already comes with 5GB internal storage which is sufficient for all purposes while saving just 1GB for Nook shop downloads.

And if you are not that lucky to do any of the above to re-partition your Nook Tablet, then XDA Forum member tselling has came up with a comprehensive guide to re-partition your 16G Nook Tablet in 11GB for your personal use so that the valuable memory could be used for something useful and rest for the data partition. As noted the process is long enough and complicated too, and requires some adb knowledge to re-partition the internal memory, so this is not something you can do unless you have lots of time on your hands and without some knowledge. The process also involves making a back which one should do anyway before playing with their device. If you are all set to continue, read the commands carefully and enter them exactly or you may end up bricking your device or turning it to a expensive paperweight. At the end, your partition will look something like this:-

1 131kB 262kB 131kB xloader
2 262kB 524kB 262kB bootloader
3 524kB 16.3MB 15.7MB recovery
4 16.8MB 33.6MB 16.8MB boot
5 33.6MB 83.9MB 50.3MB fat32 rom
6 83.9MB 134MB 50.3MB fat32 bootdata
7 134MB 522MB 388MB ext4 factory
8 522MB 1164MB 642MB ext4 system
9 1164MB 1611MB 447MB ext4 cache
10 1611MB 11.6GB 9989MB fat32 media msftres
11 11.6GB 15.9GB 4326MB ext4 userdata

For those who want to continue the procedure head over to original xda developer thread for the instructions.
